Soft Shackles will help make any vehicle recovery easier. Forget about trying to find a solution to connect a steel shackle or a metal shackle to a vehicle without recovery points or tow hooks. Our Shackles wrap around anything such as recovery points, roll bars, axles and bumpers, therefore replacing heavy D-Rings and Anchor Shackles and other metal shackles in just about every application. Plus, with their versatility, it allows you to make connection points that metal shackles don’t allow.

Our Soft Shackles are made from High Strength, Low Stretch UHMWPE synthetic rope in many diameters and strengths so you can be sure that they will not break even in the toughest recovery situations. They can be used with recovery ropes, tow ropes, winch ropes or whatever recovery tools you have and are perfect for use with hooks and Safety Thimbles.

Some of the Advantages of Soft Shackles:

  • Lightweight – They are so light they even float
  • Strong – Made with High Strength, Low Stretch UHMWPE 12 strand synthetic rope. Stronger than steel cable in the same size
  • Safer – No metal objects or projectiles causing damage or harm to people or vehicles like steel shackle.
  • Can be wrapped around almost anything without causing damage to the vehicle or scratching paint
  • Easy to store – place them under your seat, in your pocket or wrapped around your roll cage
  • Designed with a Quick Release Pull String.  After a recovery or pull, the soft-eye under the knot can become very tight and hard to remove. Simply pull on the string to help release the eye tension to remove from the knot.

Q&A

Question: What is a soft shackle and why choose it over steel shackles?

Short answer: A soft shackle is a “rope shackle” made from high-strength, low-stretch 12-strand UHMWPE synthetic rope. Compared to steel D-rings/anchor shackles, it’s lighter (it even floats), safer (no heavy metal parts that can become projectiles), and less likely to damage recovery points or scratch paint. It can wrap around recovery points, roll bars, axles, bumpers, and more—making connections that metal shackles often can’t. Despite being lightweight, these shackles are stronger than steel cable of the same size.

Question: How do I pick the right soft shackle for my vehicle and use case?

Short answer: Match the shackle to your vehicle weight and recovery needs, using the product’s “for vehicles up to” guidance and the Recommended Working Load Limit (WLL). Examples:

  • 1/2″ ATV/UTV15,000 lb. Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS), 5,000 lb WLL, for vehicles up to 5,000 lb.
  • 3/4″ (standard or Large): 30,000 lb. MBS, 10,000 lb. WLL, for vehicles up to 10,000 lb.
  • Heavy Duty: 55,000 lb MBS, for vehicles up to 20,000 lb
  • Mega: 80,000 lb. MBS, for vehicles up to 40,000 lb
  • Extreme: 125,000 lb MBS, for vehicles up to 65,000 lb
  • Industrial: 175,000 lb MBS, for vehicles up to 100,000 lb
  • Tree Saver Soft Shackle: 40,000 lb MBS, 20,000 lb WLL, 36″ inside diameter with 8 ft nylon sheathing (for anchoring around trees)

Use the WLL as your practical working limit; MBS is the minimum load at which the shackle will failChoose the size/strength that meets or exceeds your needs, and remember these shackles are rated for pulling, not lifting.

Question: What’s the difference between the standard and “Large” 3/4″ soft shackles?

Short answer: Both have the same strength rating—30,000 lb Minimum Breaking Strength and a 10,000 lb Recommended WLL—for vehicles up to 10,000 lb. The difference is fit and reach: the 3/4″ series offers two inside diameters (10″ or 15″). The “Large” version provides the larger inside diameter for easier wrapping around bigger recovery points or components.

Question: What does the Quick Release pull string do, and how do I use it?

Short answer: After a pull, the soft eye under the diamond knot can cinch down tightly and be hard to remove. The Quick Release pull string lets you tug the eye to relieve tension so you can easily open it and take the shackle off the knot—speeding up recovery and reducing effort.

Question: Can I lift with these shackles, and what can I safely attach them to?

Short answer: No—these soft shackles are rated for pulling, not lifting. For pulling and recovery, they can be wrapped around recovery points, roll bars, axles, and bumpers without scratching paint. They work with recovery ropes, tow ropes, winch ropes, hooks, and Safety Thimbles. For anchoring to trees, use the Tree Saver Soft Shackle, which includes an 8 ft heavy-duty nylon sheath.
