The Republic P-47C-2 was a significant evolution of the Thunderbolt series. While maintaining the classic “Razorback” canopy and the 8-inch fuselage extension of the C-series, the C-2 block introduced a reinforced fuselage and a dedicated under-fuselage shackle. This modification was revolutionary, allowing the aircraft to carry either a 200-gallon pressurized ferry tank or a 500lb bomb. This transformed the P-47 from a high-altitude interceptor into a true long-range escort and ground-attack fighter, capable of striking deep into occupied Europe with the USAAF 8th Air Force.
